A sitting-on-your-lap story
I am a grandparent and can't wait to read this book to my two year old grandson. The bright action-like illustrations that you see as you turn every page I know will capture his attention as I read the simple short rhyming story on the corresponding page. I think children who have been exposed to the ocean and its creatures will particularly love this story.

What a surprise!
This book is a wonderful story that has a rhyme on every page. The illustrations are beautiful and full of depth and meaning. My children and I have read it time and again and my 2 year old is learning the rhymes! We laugh everytime we see how Ray shows his frown...

Bly shows how to be a great friend and have great character.
I absolutely adore this book! The pictures are vibrant and eye catching, the rhyming makes it easy to read, and the story is phenomenal! This is an excellent example for children - it shows great character. Children are mesmorized by the blue ocean scenes and all the ocean characters. The facts at the end of the book are a nice touch also. I highly recommend this book for children and adults. It teaches us ALL how to be a great friend!

Tears and Gratitude
My daughter bought this book to thank her Dad and me for everything we have ever done for her. I read it and cried, as we had just lost our son to a battle with brain cancer, and this book reminded me of him as he touched so many lives esp. in how he accepted his illness and in his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. But it also reminded us of our other three children, as they, too, have touched many lives in their own way ----so we bought each of them this book to thank them for what they are. This book is for all the people who quietly do the kind things in life that few people know about, yet who influence people just by the goodness that shines through them. It is a heart warming reminder to all of us that everything we do does matter.

Touching...
This song is so beautiful! It touches your heart and soul with so much Love and appreciation...I dedicate this song to my girlfriend Michele who led me to the Lord. It is a song that will bring tears to your eyes whenever you hear it, if you have Jesus in your heart and know He is the only way to Heaven! :)Like the song says...Thank you for giving to the Lord...Mine is the life that was changed! :) May you all experience God's life changing power. Amen!

Straight from the Heart
I bought this for my son's birthday as I remember the day he had done a play at our church with this song. Their was not a dry eye when everyone listen to this song. It made me think he was thanking everyone around him as well as myself for his life was changed. An upbeat song teenagers will love as well as anyone else!

That's All Folks: The Art of Warner Bros. Animation
Published in Paperback by Henry Holt (Paper) (September, 1990)
Authors: Steve Schneider, Stephen Schneider, and Ray Bradbury
Average review score:

Colourful ode to Warner Brothers animation
This is an excellent and richly illustrated book on animation at Warner Brothers. It contains a lot of background information on e.g. Carl Stalling's music, the styles of the different directors, inside jokes, war cartoons, forgotten cartoon characters and so on. The joy of reading this book is only surpassed by watching the Warner Brothers cartoons themselves.

Very good survey historical and technical survey
While writing an article for the Talaria Enterprises Museum Store's new release of Looney Tunes sculptures, I turned to this very informative book. It discusses the history and impact of the Looney Tunes characters from historical, technical, and theoretical perspectives. Very Good Sourcebook!

A great resource for WB cartoon buffs.

First, I have to confess that I am a card-carrying adult who still watches cartoons every Saturday morning. As an adult, however, I'm now interested it the history of the cartoons I watch. (It makes me feel more...sophisticated about my cartoon viewing.)

"That's All Folks" has incredible full-color pictures, chronicals the history of WB cartoons, provides specific information about the most popular characters and cartoons, AND includes a filmography of WB cartoon releases. If you like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and the rest of the gang, you should have this book.

Simply the best
Quite simply, this is the best general purpose computing book I have ever read. It would say it is absolute essential for A-level students, but also has an awful lot to offer anyone else, as this will act as a superb reference book for many years to come. If you are studying computing in any form, then you are doing yourself an injustice by not owning this superb book....

no title
If you are an A level computing student, I strongly recommend you to buy this book. Most information in the book is up to date. Color printed, which can always keep you awake. Even if you feel the book not enough for you, it provides some web site for you to reinforce the book.

Absolutely wonderful
The Best A level book I have seen. Covers all of the most recent material

The Unforgettable Sea of Cortez: Baja California's Golden Age, 1947-1977: The Life and Writings of Ray Cannon
Published in Hardcover by Cortez Pubns (June, 1999)
Author: Gene S. Kira
Average review score:

Beautiful!
The California Outdoor Writers Association awarded the title "best book of the year." It's easy to see why. Kira pays homage to Ray Cannon, who wrote the bestseller The Sea of Cortez which documented the "Golden Age" for Baja. No one could have written a better tribute than Kira, a Baja afficionado whose enthusiasm and affection for the peninsula can be detected on every page. Rare photos and drawings complement the text. This is a beautiful book!

A coffee table book about a coffee table book
This magnificent book covers the life of Ray Cannon, who wrote The Sea of Cortez. It is a facinating and well organized assemblege of the man's colorful life. It took me to a simpler time and a place on earth that was unspoiled. A wonderful book.

A look at a time past and people who lived large
Wonderful photos and you hold in your hand a book that can transport you, via his own words, into the inner circle of an astounding man, Ray Cannon, and the glamorous and mysterious friends he drew around him. He left Hollywood and the big-city life of the movies, where he had money and power, to take up the life of a country fisherman and a writer of essays. But he was never a country fisherman. He was an institution, living the romantic life in a wild, untamed place, among beautiful scenes and unforgettable people who did outrageous things. Great book. Wonderful company. A trip you can take over and over again.

Upon This Rock: The Miracles of a Black Church

Author: Samuel G. Freedman

A Rock in a weary land
This book takes you on a journey filled with the miracles of faith and power of prayer. You can feel each trial and tribulation in your heart. I have visited this church after reading this book and the warmth and love is all over the church. This pastor has endured much, in order to dedicate his life to his calling. I was inspired to reach out and believe me it was a rock for me as a child of Christ and I was able to dedicate myself to the cause of Christ. It is a must read for all, young and old. My children, and my childrens children will read this.

A story of faith, tribulations and victory
This book chronicles a Brooklyn church and its community amid the crime, drugs and despair of the black community. However , faith and learning to believe in the Lord and his ultimate plan for an individual and his community makes this church an oasis amid the storms. It is a story of a pastor, with his own demons, trying to be resopnsible for the souls of his congregation and the thin ice on which he must tread. This book will make you look at the inner city and its churches in a different light.

A powerful, challenging account of contemporary Christianity
This book was well written and well resourced and led me on a pilgrimage to this black Mecca.

Valley of Decision: The Siege of Khe Sanh
Published in Paperback by Dell Pub Co (January, 1993)
Authors: John Prados and Ray Stubbe
Average review score:

Bait on the end of the hook
In Valley of Decision, The Siege of Khe Sanh, the authors chronicle the trials of both the Marines and the North Vietnamese who fought there. Both sides attempted to turn this remote outpost on the Laotian border into a decisive campaign that would ultimately determine the outcome of the war. Both sides failed in this attempt despite their best efforts.

After reading this book I find Khe Sanh to be the war in Vietnam in microcosm. The problems of differing perceptions held by Westmorland, Marine General Walt, the CIA, Special Forces, Marine Force Recon and the Bru tribesmen who occupied Khe Sanh illustrate the violations of the principles of war of objective and unity of command. Hovering above it all was the President of the United States exercising personal control of a battlefield from his office, 10,000 miles away.

In retrospect, Khe Sanh was a victory in a sense for the U.S. An isolated U.S. garrison that blew reville and raised a tattered American flag each day despite the inevitable mortar/artillery barrage it drew, told the Bru tribesmen and the North and South Vietnamese that he U.S. was still in control despite being outnumbered significantly. Almost unlimited American artillery and air support helped make the point.

Reading this book, one almost feels the fear, frustration, and misery the garrison endured there. Yet the reader senses the fierce pride that only combat soldiers doing a dirty, thankless job can feel. You can also imagine the rage felt when they were told simply that Khe Sanh was no longer important and to simply walk away.

Valley is essentially a foxhole level analysis of this campaign that shows how decisions emenating all the way from Washington and Saigon impacted the lives of the men on the ground. They were indeed the bait that lured thousands of North Vietnamese to their deaths. Like elsewhere in Vietnam, they were left with nothing to show for their heroic efforts.

The definitive volume on this subject to date.
As a Marine who was in the trenches at Khe Sahn, Mr. Prados and Ray Stubbe have done all of us an immeasurable service. Ray's recollection of places, people and events is phenomenal. As a "grunt" PFC then, I certainly lacked the macro-knowledge provided by Mr. Prados. They have succeeded in helping me,(and many others, I'm sure), construct a better picture of why we were there and what we did. There are a few defects, generally due to information not then available to the authors. However, until something better comes along, this book is, in my opinion, definitive.

OUTSTANDING REFERENCE BOOK OF THE SIEGE AT KHE SAND
VALLEY OF DECISION BY PRADOS

What Will I Do With My Money?: How Your Personality Affects Your Financial Behavior
Published in Paperback by Northfield Pub (June, 2000)
Author: Ray Linder
Average review score:

An entertaining book about money?!
You betcha! A FUN book for anyone who's ever wanted to work better with their financial resources. Linder quickly gets specific with each and every reader. How? With short, snappy exercises that help the reader focus on his/her specific view of money. The reader will discover self-attitudes only evident after the right questions (Linder's) are asked and answered. Then Linder guides the reader to an understanding of his/her personality type and how to make that work with the money at hand, with one's marriage, and with one's career. We're talking life-changing self-discovery! Linder's epilogue is a real zinger and makes "it all" matter.

Clear, informative, and interesting!
This book is a wonderful integration of personality factors with financial management. The material is so clearly presented that anyone can grasp the principles, yet it gives a new application of Myers-Briggs Personality Typing to the financial domain that can expand the understanding of professionals. The many exercises and tables of concise terms are helpful in assessing one's needs and values and increasing self-awareness of one's inner motivations. Certainly not a "one-size-fits-all" universal prescription, this, instead, helps to tailor one's use of money to achieve true wealth and personal satisfaction.

Great resource manual for professionals!
I LIKE IT! It is a TEACHING manual about personality and money. A book really for professionals...in any area. A counselling tool in finances for marriage counselors and therapists; a tool for "money" consultants and advisors; a pastoral tool for counselling; a workshop tool for lecturers; ABSOLUTELY a BROAD LEARNING and TEACHING tool for MBTIers of all stripes! A valuable resource tool. Written so that the lay person can readily understand.

What You Know by Heart : How to Develop Curriculum for Your Writing Workshop
Published in Paperback by Heinemann (01 June, 2002)
Author: Katie Wood Ray
Average review score:

A must Read!
What a delight to read a book on the teaching of writing that is simple, focused, purposeful and concise. Katie Wood Ray writes with determination. It is her goal to birth the writer in each of us. As the reader engages in the reading of her work she midwifes the writing process within the reader in a way that one embraces it and nurtures its growth.
The teacher/student in each of us has a life that is rich in experiences and thus embedded with curriculum possibilities. Katie open the readers mind to the world of writing and its possibilities. She writes "We need to know by heart what it is we are trying to teach when we teach...".
There are no virgin pages in my copy of her book. It is my goal that the truth found in the reading of her work will become my truth in my teaching of the writing process. A wonderful and necessary read for all teachers. Let's write!

Confused about mentor texts in mini-lessons?
Beware teachers, only read this book if you are ready to dive deeper into what it means to teach writing, as a writer! This is the first book I've read that explicitly breaks down how to use mentor texts and my own writing to support student learning in a writer's workshop. Katie Wood Ray uses wonderful examples of how to write and read like a teacher of writing. The first part of the book provides a process to study our own writing for curriculum development. The second part focuses on mentor texts; using published authors as co-teachers. Her goal is to pomote metacognition in the teachers that read this book and have them change their instruction in a powerful way. This is a slow read, but only because you have to stop to think and apply the concepts. Luckily, she created "Think It Through" boxes to help guide your reflections. I closed this book with a solid understanding of how I can use my own writing and use other authors to teach my writer's workshop. If you are using the writer's workshop approach, but don't consider yourself a writer, read this book. It will help you realze that you already know these things by heart.

What You Know By Heart Hits Home
There are few books on the market for writing teachers with such warm, insightful, fresh, and practical advice in them as this wonderful text by Katie Wood Ray. Her stories ring true, her advice is sage, and the layout of this piece is a knock out. I especially love the text suggestions to match curriculum statements in the appendix. This is real stuff - and oh, so very needed. My copy is marked up from the first page to the last; I just love this book. Any teacher wanting to make writing work more effectively in their classroom would do well to take this book to heart.
